Us
Next Level Strategies was founded in 2003 to provide a full range
of Human Resources services to small and mid-sized businesses in
the greater San Francisco Bay area. NLS offers complete
HR services delivered in a practical, useful, and cost-effective
manner, including recruiting, employee relations, performance
management, leadership coaching, compensation, benefits, compliance
and even full outsourcing of the human resources function.
We
typically work with companies of fewer than 100 employees, and
our clients do business in a variety of fields, including high
tech, marketing, public relations, restaurants, physicians’ offices,
medical clinics, graphic design, retail, and salons.
Whether you have a few employees, 50 employees, or whether you’re
just thinking about hiring your first employee, NLS can help you
navigate the maze of legal and practical considerations of hiring,
retaining, and managing employees to improve productivity while
containing the employer’s costs and reducing legal liability.
The consultants at Next Level Strategies include:

Julie A. Chendes, SPHR, Founder and CEO. Julie’s
12 years of experience started in the high tech industry, and
has encompassed work for small employers ranging from property
management companies to medical clinics. Julie earned her
Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management at Golden
Gate University, and a B.S. in Public Relations at Western Michigan
University. Julie also holds a Human Resource Fundamentals
Certificate, SFSU College of Extended Learning and is a Senior
Professional in Human Resources as certified by the Human
Resources Certification Institute. Julie teaches seminars
at the San Francisco Small Business Development Center and
worked as an HR consultant with SBDC clients for three years.
She is active with the Bay Area Business Advisors’ Consortium (BABAC) and serves on the Board
of Directors of Instituto Familiar de la Raza.
Kirsti Spiva, Consultant. Kirsti Spiva joined NLS in March, 2007, as a full time Consultant. With almost 20 years of top level management experience in HR, marketing and IT, Kirsti focuses on HR with a broader perspective on integration with a company's overall strategy. Our growth is all about supporting our clients in an even more effective way. We’ve been getting a number of opportunities to act as a fully outsourced HR function in addition to our bread and butter project work and are committed to being relationship-oriented and readily accessible to new and current clients.

Paula Irwin, Consultant. Paula’s background includes nine years of human resources management experience, primarily within international organizations. Paula’s human resources experience covers diverse industries, including financial and educational institutions, and an oilfield services company. Paula
holds a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from
Golden Gate University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources
Management from the University of North London, Great Britain,
and a B.A. in Business Studies from the University of Wolverhampton,
Great Britain. Paula is a Graduate Member of the Chartered
Institute of Personnel Management in Great Britain.

Taune M. Janssen, Recruiter/HR Assistant. Taune focuses on human resources consulting and recruiting, working closely with our restaurant clientele and start up businesses in all fields. Taune’s background includes over 11 years in the restaurant industry and six years in restaurant management, where she was responsible for staffing, performance management, training, and personnel administration. She found she had a passion and a flair for the employee side of the business, which prompted a career change to the field of Human Resources. Taune has a degree in Merchandise Management Marketing from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
